Position Details

This RN Float Pool position supports inpatient units based on the nurse’s competencies, including:

• ICU
• Step-Down
• Medical/Surgical

Minimum Experience: Med/Surg background required
Preferred: Step-Down experience

Patient Population

• Cardiac patients
• Orthopedic/Neuro
• Surgical
• Medical patients
• Patient population varies by assigned unit

Nurse-to-Patient Ratios

• Med/Surg: 1:6
• Step-Down: 1:4–5
• ICU: 1:2–3

Clinical Requirements

• RNs titrate drips in Step-Down areas only.
• Common drips include Heparin, Cardizem, Nitro, Cardene, Insulin, Dobutamine, Dopamine, Activase, Esmolol, Lidocaine, Labetalol, Primacor, Procainamide, Aggrastat, and Verapamil.
• Telemetry available; monitor technicians are provided.
• CVU nurses read their own strips.
• CPAP/BiPAP may be used on all units.
• Vents are used in ICU.
• Chronic trach vents may be managed in Step-Down.

Scheduling

• 3 shifts: 7:00 AM–7:30 PM
• 3 shifts: 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
• Every other weekend required
• Holidays as needed
• No regular call requirement
• Standby may be required if census is low
• Daily assignments are provided through the staffing office
