Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a Medical Surgical unit managing diagnoses including diabetes, COPD, sepsis, pneumonia, GI bleed, anemia, hip fracture, encephalopathy, dementia, and COVID-19
- Perform and manage a broad range of clinical skills including IV insulin protocols, blood product administration, central line blood draws, PICC line management, colostomy care, feeding tube care, and pre/post hemodialysis management
- Monitor patients via remote telemetry, interpret dysrhythmias, and utilize Rapid Response Team protocols as needed
- Manage respiratory support modalities including CPAP/BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula, oxygen face masks, oral suctioning, and non-invasive airway management; maintain chest tube (Emerson/Pleuravac) care
- Maintain isolation precautions, wound care/wound vac management, and adhere to all infection control protocols including a dedicated COVID isolation area
- Participate in floating within or near the facility as needed; contract staff may be assigned to Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team and may be required to report during catastrophic events, mass casualty incidents, or disasters
Required Qualifications
- Active NC RN license or valid Compact RN license (pending license acceptable for submission)
- Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification required
- Must pass EKG testing prior to start
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
- Proficiency in Med/Surg nursing with telemetry/remote monitoring, heparin and PCA management, phlebotomy, and peripheral/IV line care
- Local candidates (within 50 miles of facility) are welcome to apply; a lower rate applies for local candidates
Preferred Experience / Skills
- Experience with MS/Tele or dedicated telemetry unit monitoring, accessing ports, and management of dysrhythmias
- Familiarity with CVA care, surgical drains, tracheostomy management, and interpretation of ABGs
- Experience with insulin management and EPIC electronic health records
- Comfort with SBAR communication framework and Pyxis medication dispensing system
