- Shift: 12-hour day shifts, 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Start Date: November 30, 2026
- Contract Length: 13 weeks, through February 28, 2027
- Healthcare Setting: 41-bed surgical medical-surgical unit
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends within each six-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Orientation: 12 hours
- Float Requirement: First to float within the RN skill set, with potential cross-campus assignments and advance notice when applicable
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs without competing health-system or agency logos
- Local Candidate Policy: Candidates must reside outside the applicable 40-mile radius
Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Requirements
- Active compact RN license required
- At least two years of strong medical-surgical nursing experience in an adult acute-care setting
- At least one previous travel nursing assignment
- Trauma Level II experience
- Current American Heart Association BLS certification
- Current NIHSS certification
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Recent EPIC electronic health record charting experience; completion of an EPIC checkoff class may be required
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, critical-thinking, communication, and adaptability skills
- Comfort working in a teaching environment and precepting students or new team members when needed
Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for post-surgical and medically complex adult patients
- Care for patients following procedures such as Whipple surgeries, vascular procedures, heart catheterizations, bariatric surgeries, ENT procedures, podiatry procedures, and thyroid surgeries
- Monitor and support patients with dementia, altered mental status, CIWA or detox needs, fall risks, and frequent turning requirements
- Perform thorough nursing assessments and promptly recognize changes in patient condition
- Insert and manage peripheral IVs, chest tubes, and indwelling drains
- Manage continuous bladder irrigation, stable medication drips, epidurals, ostomies, and wound vacs
- Administer blood products safely and accurately
- Interpret telemetry and provide appropriate clinical interventions
- Perform wound packing, dressing changes, and other wound-care treatments
- Provide pre- and post-heart-catheterization care, including femoral access site and TR-band monitoring
- Collaborate with providers, charge nurses, patient care technicians, and the interdisciplinary care team
- Float within the RN skill set and maintain safe, effective patient care during changing unit needs
