Travel Nursing Job Details

- Shift: 12-hour nights, 6:30 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Three weekends in every six-week schedule
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- Unit: 34-bed cardiac and renal medical-surgical telemetry setting
- Typical Ratios: Approximately 1:6–7 on nights; charge nurses may also carry a patient assignment
- Orientation: Includes 12 hours of orientation; biweekly orientation schedule
- Float Expectations: First to float within the nurse’s skill set, including potential assignments at nearby affiliated campuses with advance notice
- Call Requirement: No routine call or callback requirement
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs without competing health system or agency logos
Medical-Surgical Telemetry RN Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of strong cardiac and telemetry nursing experience
- At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment
- Experience in a Level II trauma setting
- Current active compact Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Recent EPIC charting experience; completion of an EPIC checkoff class is required
- Associate degree or nursing certificate
- Ability to successfully complete required telemetry testing
- Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and critical-thinking skills
- Adaptable, resilient, dependable, and team-oriented approach to patient care
Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, comprehensive nursing care for patients with cardiac, renal, medical-surgical, and telemetry needs.
- Monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms and 12-lead EKGs, escalating changes promptly.
- Care for patients recovering from cardiac catheterization, ablation procedures, pacemaker placement, and other cardiac interventions.
- Manage patients with atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, congestive heart failure, end-stage renal disease, sepsis, and complex comorbidities.
- Administer and monitor cardiac and medical infusions, including Cardizem, amiodarone, heparin, Lasix, and Protonix, according to orders and protocols.
- Perform peripheral IV insertion and provide central line care.
- Manage chest tubes, indwelling drains, nephrostomy tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, and post-renal-biopsy care.
- Apply detoxification and CIWA protocols while maintaining a safe, therapeutic environment.
- Complete accurate assessments, documentation, medication administration, care planning, and patient education in EPIC.
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate care and support positive patient outcomes.
- Float within the nurse’s competency to support staffing needs and maintain quality care across nearby affiliated locations.
- Support a teaching environment by assisting with the precepting of students and newly hired team members when needed.
