Travel nursing opportunity for an experienced Registered Nurse (RN) in a high-acuity Cardiac Renal Unit in Evansville, Indiana.   • Orientation: 12 hours, with biweekly orientation scheduling
  • Schedule: Three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
  • Patient Population: High-acuity medical-surgical and cardiac patients, including dysrhythmias, heart failure, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post-ablation patients, and dialysis patients
  • Float Expectations: First to float within the nurse’s skill set, including occasional coverage at nearby affiliated campuses with advance notice

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license with a current compact license
  • At least 2 years of strong cardiac nursing and telemetry nursing experience
  • At least 1 previous travel nursing assignment
  • Trauma Level II experience
  • Associate degree or nursing certificate
  • Current AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Recent Epic electronic health record (EHR) charting experience
  • Ability to successfully complete telemetry competency testing and an Epic checkoff class
  • Strong patient assessment, critical-thinking, communication, and adaptability skills
  • Professional, dependable, resilient, and team-oriented approach to patient care

Medical-Surgical/Telemetry RN Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care for high-acuity medical-surgical and telemetry patients on night shifts
  • Monitor and interpret telemetry and 12-lead EKGs, recognizing and responding to changes in cardiac rhythm
  • Care for patients with atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, atrial flutter, heart blocks, heart failure, and post-ablation needs
  • Initiate and titrate appropriate infusions, including antiarrhythmics, heparin, amiodarone, diltiazem, furosemide, and other ordered therapies
  • Perform thorough patient assessments and use sound clinical judgment to prioritize care for complex patients
  • Manage peripheral IVs, chest tubes, indwelling drains, continuous bladder irrigation, nephrostomy tubes, and other specialized devices
  • Care for patients undergoing or recovering from cardiac catheterization without intervention, dialysis, and treatment for COPD, sepsis, and withdrawal-related conditions
  • Float within the assigned skill set and support patient care across affiliated locations as needed
  • Accurately document nursing care in Epic and collaborate with the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Support a teaching-hospital environment by precepting students and newly hired staff when assigned
