Join a collaborative medical-surgical travel nursing team in Kerrville, Texas, and provide compassionate care to adult and geriatric patients. Travel Nursing Job Details

- Schedule: 3 shifts per week; 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights
- Unit: 26-bed medical-surgical unit with an average daily census of approximately 24 patients
- Patient Population: Adults and geriatric patients
- Weekend Coverage: Weekend shifts required, including approximately 12 weekend shifts during the contract
- Scheduling: No block scheduling
- Floating: Float assignments may include other medical-surgical, clinical decision, and rehabilitation units
Medical-Surgical Travel RN Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license applicable to Texas practice
- At least 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience
- Recent short-stay or observation-unit experience required
- Telemetry nursing experience preferred
- Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and teamwork skills
- Ability to provide compassionate nursing care in a fast-paced hospital environment
- Comfort caring for patients with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, urinary, endocrine, neurological, and electrolyte-related conditions
- Ability to float to designated units as needed
Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult and geriatric medical-surgical patients
- Assess patients, develop and update individualized nursing care plans, and evaluate outcomes
- Administer medications, IV therapies, blood products, insulin, and other prescribed treatments safely
- Monitor telemetry and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms or patient condition
- Care for patients with respiratory disease, cardiac disorders, chest pain, syncope, seizures, acute withdrawal, renal concerns, and other complex medical conditions
- Manage central lines, PICC lines, ports, feeding tubes, surgical drains, chest tubes, wound care, and urinary care needs
- Support patients before and after procedures such as cardiac stent placement, pacemaker insertion, and stress testing
- Use appropriate isolation precautions, oxygen-delivery systems, non-invasive airway support, and emergency response protocols
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, rehabilitation, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary care team
- Document nursing care accurately in the electronic medical record and promote safe transitions of care
- Maintain a kind, caring, and team-oriented approach while supporting patients and families
