Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,730–$1,820
  • Start Date: October 26, 2026
  • Contract: 13 weeks, ending January 25, 2027
  • Schedule: Day shifts, 3 shifts per week
  • Shift Duration: 12 hours; approximately 6:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5 on days and 1:6 on nights
  • Weekend Coverage: Weekend shifts are required; 12 weekend shifts are expected during the contract
  • Scheduling: No block scheduling
  • Floating: May be required to 2 West, the Clinical Decision Unit, and the Acute Rehabilitation Unit
  • Patient Population: Adult and geriatric patients
  • Unit Census: Approximately 24 patients across a 26-bed unit

Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Texas
  • At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Recent short-stay or observation nursing experience required
  • Telemetry nursing experience preferred
  • Current AHA BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Strong experience caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions
  • Experience with Meditech or a comparable electronic medical record preferred
  • Ability to float between designated units and collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
  • Nursys verification and required health screening documentation
  • Must be available to work 3 of 5 designated winter holidays during the assignment

Medical-Surgical Travel Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, compassionate, and evidence-based nursing care to Medical-Surgical patients
  • Assess, monitor, and document patient conditions, progress, and response to treatment
  • Manage patients with respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, urinary, endocrine, and renal conditions
  • Care for patients experiencing chest pain, syncope, seizures, electrolyte imbalances, and acute substance withdrawal
  • Provide telemetry monitoring and recognize changes in cardiac rhythms and patient status
  • Perform medication administration, IV therapy, blood product administration, insulin management, and central or peripheral line care
  • Manage feeding tubes, surgical drains, chest tubes, wound care, wound vacs, tracheostomies, and continuous bladder irrigation as indicated
  • Care for patients following cardiac stent procedures, pacemaker placement, stress testing, myocardial infarction, angiography, and orthopedic procedures
  • Coordinate care with respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response teams, and other support services
  • Float to assigned units as needed while maintaining high standards of patient care and teamwork
  • Communicate clearly with patients, families, providers, and the interdisciplinary care team
