Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Assignment Type: 13-week travel Registered Nurse assignment
  • Estimated Weekly Pay: $1,660–$1,750

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts
  • Shift Hours: 7:00 p.m. – 7:00 a.m.
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Unit: Adult Surgical Short Stay
  • Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Patient Population: Adults with a broad range of surgical diagnoses, including colorectal, endoscopic, general, gynecologic, neurologic, orthopedic, plastic, urologic, vascular, and thoracic conditions
  • Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend; approximately 12 weekend night shifts per contract
  • Floating: May be required to float to inpatient surgery floors, inpatient holding areas, or medical floors as needed
  • Documentation: Epic experience preferred
  • Contract Flexibility: Longer assignments of 13–26 weeks may be considered

Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina or a compact-state license; pending licensure may be considered for submission
  • At least 2 years of recent Medical-Surgical nursing experience
  • Prior Surgical Short Stay or 23-hour observation unit experience required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications required
  • Ability to successfully complete required EKG testing before the start of the assignment
  • Strong clinical skills in postoperative assessment, surgical drains, wound care, wound vacs, telemetry, dysrhythmia recognition, IV therapy, PCA, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Ability to care for patients across multiple surgical service lines
  • Previous charge nursing experience preferred
  • Epic charting experience preferred
  • Willingness to float and work weekends and designated holidays as scheduled

Travel RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care to adult surgical and short-stay patients
  • Complete comprehensive nursing assessments, monitor recovery, and identify changes in patient condition
  • Care for patients arriving from post-anesthesia recovery, preoperative patients, and surgical inpatients when needed
  • Administer medications, blood products, IV therapies, insulin protocols, and pain-management therapies according to orders and policy
  • Manage surgical drains, wound vac systems, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, central and peripheral lines, and continuous bladder irrigation
  • Provide telemetry monitoring and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias, rapid responses, and emergency situations
  • Coordinate discharge readiness, patient education, and continuity of care for patients with stays typically under 24 hours
  • Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, social services, IV teams, and other members of the care team
  • Float to nearby applicable units when needed and support team operations during high census or emergency events
