Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a PCU night shift position requiring 2 years of acute care experience and an active OH or compact RN license.

Details

  • Mixed acuity Surgical Oncology unit caring for both PCU and Medical/Surgical patients on a busy surgical floor
  • Adult and geriatric patients with diagnoses including surgical oncology, hepatobiliary, colorectal, and plastics/reconstructive cancers
  • Staffing ratio goal is 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • Night shift, 3x12 hour shifts (19:00-7:30)
  • May be scheduled as a rotating 12-hour day/night contract with assignments reviewed every 4-week period
  • Variable weekend scheduling based on unit needs; no set or blocked scheduling offered
  • Float within scope of practice may be required
  • Special procedures include chemotherapy, blood transfusions, IV antibiotics, insulin and heparin drips, and management of oncologic emergencies including cytokine release syndrome
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of submission
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience within the last 12 months
  • At least 1 year of PCU experience required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Experience with respiratory care, BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tubes (Emerson/PleurEvac), and tracheostomy care preferred
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited nursing program
  • Epic charting experience required
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable for the second reference; coworker references not accepted

  • Provide direct nursing care to surgical oncology patients including chemotherapy administration, blood transfusions, and management of oncologic emergencies
  • Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is valued; travel experience not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment after 6 months away from the facility
  • Current employees are ineligible for a travel assignment at this health system
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to strict compliance timelines
