Description

American Traveler is hiring a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg Oncology unit requiring 2 years of current acute care oncology-specialty experience and telemetry skills.

Details

  • Med/Surg Oncology unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with solid tumor cancers including breast, lung, prostate, pancreatic, colon, and esophageal cancer
  • Cares for patients across the cancer journey from new diagnosis through treatment and end-of-life transition
  • Staffing ratio goal of 1:4, potentially up to 1:5
  • Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Variable weekend requirements based on unit needs
  • No set or blocked scheduling available
  • Floating required to other Med/Surg Oncology units
  • Uses Epic for charting

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required
  • ONS Chemo certification preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care experience required, specifically in oncology/med-surg specialty within the last 12 months
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Telemetry interpretation and monitoring skills required
  • Experience with IV therapy/phlebotomy, accessing and managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, and starting/maintaining IVs
  • Experience with chemotherapy administration preferred
  • Experience interpreting and managing cardiac dysrhythmias
  • Knowledge of isolation precautions and PPE
  • Tracheostomy care/management skills preferred
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; a Charge RN is acceptable as the second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct nursing care with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice encouraged; previous travel experience preferred but not required
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after 6 months away from the facility
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel positions at this location
  • RTO must be submitted with contract request and built into the assignment, limited to 7 days or less
  • Candidates must complete Ohio fingerprinting promptly after signing contract due to state requirements
