Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a high-acuity oncology unit requiring 2 years of inpatient nursing experience and an active OH or compact RN license

Details

  • Mixed acuity PCU/MS Tele unit caring for medical oncology patients with approximately 24 PCU beds and 24 MS Tele beds
  • High acuity patient population with a variety of diagnoses ranging from solid tumors to some blood cancers
  • Rare pediatric patients may be present but are primarily cared for by permanent staff
  • 12-hour Day (7:00-19:30) or Night (19:00-7:30) shifts, with potential for a rotating D/N schedule based on department needs
  • Shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period
  • Staffing ratios targeted at 1:4-5, though this may vary based on unit needs
  • Weekend shift requirements are variable
  • Uses GE B450 telemetry monitors, bladder scanners, Alaris pumps, PCA pumps, and Continuous Bladder Irrigation equipment
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Required to float to units of equivalent or lower acuity

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required at time of consideration
  • BLS certification required; ACLS preferred
  • 2 years of inpatient nursing experience required, must be current and within the last 12 months in the specialty applied for
  • Oncology experience preferred but not required
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • Skills in IV therapy/phlebotomy, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and blood product administration
  • Experience with telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and rapid response/code team protocols
  • Familiarity with isolation precautions and PPE
  • Chemotherapy administration and monitoring skills preferred
  • Experience with BiPAP/CPAP, chest tubes, high flow nasal cannula, and tracheostomy care preferred
  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation experience preferred
  • Heparin protocol and IV insulin protocol experience preferred
  • Surgical drain management experience preferred
  • Two professional references required, with at least one from a manager, director, or supervisor; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

  • Provide direct nursing care to a high-acuity oncology patient population with a heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and fall prevention
  • Chemotherapy competence not required for this unit, but professional development training including a 2-day chemo course is available for interested candidates
  • Willingness to learn and grow nursing practice is welcomed; first-time travelers may be considered
  • Locals accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for a travel assignment once they have been away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of any Ohio State University hospital location are ineligible for a travel assignment
  • Requested time off must be submitted with the contract and limited to 7 days or less
  • Ohio fingerprinting is required promptly after signing the contract as part of the credentialing process
