Description:
The Medical Assistant will manage the customer flow throughout the clinic.
The role involves assisting providers in the management and treatment of customers from a variety of backgrounds and age groups.
Individualized care is required for infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.
The focus of the Medical Assistant is on collaborative, supportive, and delegated tasks as described in the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
Delegable tasks and competencies will be specific to the role of the Supervising Nurse and Supervising Provider.
This is described by the applicable Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Practice.
The Medical Assistant will receive direction and collaborate with the Clinic Supervisor, Clinic Manager, and Providers to meet the defined goals of the shift, department, and organization.
Effective communication with the healthcare team regarding progress, concerns, questions, or problems that arise is a crucial element of the role.
Clinical and clerical tasks will be performed to assist with the management of customer flow.
Tasks may include standard rooming processes, giving immunizations, injections, and other medications as directed by the provider.
Laboratory specimen collection may also be performed as needed.
Depending on the specialty and clinic location, the Medical Assistant may provide telephone support.
Facilitating communication between customers and providers is essential.
Assistance with prescription refills may be required.
Performing x-ray duties is possible for those who have passed the x-ray operator exam.
Phlebotomy duties and clinic laboratory tests may also be part of the responsibilities.
Front desk/check-in support, ordering and stocking supplies, and assistance with prior authorizations may be included in the role.
The schedule is subject to change based on operational needs.
Weekend shifts will be assigned as per department rotation.
