Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care on a high-acuity, 30-bed Med-Surg/Telemetry unit within a busy, large Level 1 Trauma facility, with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5–6
- Manage a diverse patient population including surgical overflow (post-op spine and abdominal), Cystic Fibrosis, Sickle Cell, bariatric post-surgical complications, and wound care/pressure injury patients
- Perform and interpret 12-lead EKGs and continuously monitor telemetry strips; respond promptly to tele tech notifications of patient changes
- Titrate drips including Amiodarone, Primacor, Bumex, Lasix, Dobutamine, and IVIG; administer blood transfusions and pre-medications for chemotherapy (chemo administered by certified RNs only)
- Participate in daily multidisciplinary discharge rounding at 11 AM, communicating discharge barriers with MDs and Case Management to support timely transitions from admission to discharge
- Remain open to floating to other Med-Surg/Telemetry acuity floors when unit is overstaffed; scheduling is based on unit needs with no self-scheduling
Required Qualifications
- Active RN license valid in the state of Texas
- BLS and ACLS certifications required
- EPIC EMR proficiency required
- Must be proficient in reading and interpreting telemetry strips; a Relias EKG exam is required prior to orientation
- Must be proficient in blood administration
- Must be able to perform 12-lead EKGs
- Must be comfortable titrating drips and demonstrating strong critical thinking and clinical decision-making skills, including CODE response
Preferred Experience / Skills
- 3 or more years of RN experience, ideally in a high-volume acute care or trauma setting
- Previous travel nursing experience
- Experience caring for Cystic Fibrosis and/or Sickle Cell patient populations
- Experience with wound care, pressure injury staging, and dressing changes; familiarity with central line care and PCA management
