Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a Women's Care Unit night shift position requiring 2 years of Med/Surg experience and an active IL RN license.

Details

  • Acute care setting on an 18-bed Med/Surg Women's Care Unit
  • Patient population includes hysterectomy, mastectomy, and postpartum (mothers only) patients along with general medical/surgical cases
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:5-6
  • 12-hour night shifts, 7pm-7:30am
  • Uses EPIC EMR
  • 4 weekend shifts required per schedule period
  • Floating may be required to other general medical units
  • No call or standby requirements
  • PCT support available at a ratio of 1 PCT per 12 patients (2 PCTs for more than 12 patients)
  • 1 charge nurse per shift plus a house supervisor
  • CPAP respiratory equipment used on the unit
  • Patients may have heart monitors, but RNs are not required to read strips

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification (AHA)
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Experience with NG tube placement, foley catheter placement, blood administration, and heparin/insulin drips required
  • Must be able to titrate heparin and insulin drips
  • BSN not required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care for post-surgical and postpartum patients on a busy Med/Surg unit
  • Participate in core staff holiday rotation
  • One shift of unit-specific orientation provided, with possible extension based on need
  • Scrubs of any color are permitted
  • Local candidates accepted, with reduced pay rates applying to those within a 50-mile radius of the facility
  • Cancellation policy allows up to 12 hours off per 13-week period without penalty
