Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse – Cardiac Step-Down Travel Contract in Zanesville, Ohio
Join a skilled cardiac care team as a PCU Registered Nurse for a 13-week travel nursing contract in Zanesville, Ohio. This night-shift opportunity is ideal for an experienced cardiac step-down or progressive care nurse who is confident caring for telemetry patients, cardiac drips, heart catheterization recovery patients, post-operative open-heart patients, and complex medical-surgical cases. About the PCU Travel Nursing Opportunity
In this role, you will provide high-quality nursing care in a progressive care setting that supports open-heart recovery, telemetry cardiac care, and cardiac step-down services. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team while using Epic EMR and may float to other units when patient volumes or staffing needs require additional support.
Travel Nurse Job Details
- Location: Zanesville, Ohio
- Healthcare Setting: Progressive Care Unit (PCU); cardiac step-down, telemetry, and open-heart recovery
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,800–$1,890
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; night shifts
- Shift: 12-hour nights, generally scheduled from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Typically every third weekend and one holiday, subject to census and staffing
- Start Date: November 16, 2026
- End Date: February 15, 2027
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- On-Call: No routine on-call requirement; rare call coverage may be requested based on census and staffing
PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Ohio
- Minimum of 3 years of recent cardiac step-down, progressive care, or telemetry nursing experience
- Experience with heart catheterization recovery, cardiac drips, post-operative open-heart patients, and cardiac or medical-surgical step-down patients
- Demonstrated experience providing open-heart patient care
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
- Experience using Epic EMR
- Comfort caring for ventilated patients in rare circumstances when patient needs and staffing requirements call for it
- Ability to float to other hospital units when needed
Cardiac Step-Down Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients recovering from open-heart procedures and cardiac interventions
- Monitor telemetry patients and recognize changes in cardiac and clinical status
- Manage cardiac drips and deliver evidence-based care to complex progressive care patients
- Care for post-operative cardiac, medical-surgical, and cardiac step-down patients
- Perform patient assessments, administer medications, implement treatment plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
- Document patient care accurately in Epic EMR
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to promote safe, timely patient care
- Float to other units during periods of low volume or critical staffing needs
- Provide ventilator care when required by patient acuity and unit conditions
- Participate in scheduled weekend and holiday coverage based on staffing needs
