- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 36 hours per week
- Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts, approximately 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Patient Population: Adults with orthopedic, neuro spine, medical-surgical, and post-surgical diagnoses
- Patient Ratios: Typically 5–6 patients per nurse; may flex to 7 based on staffing and census
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Floating: Must be willing to float to other medical-surgical units as needed
- Time-Off Guidelines: Requests must be pre-approved; up to 7 days may be considered, with no first-week or holiday time off
Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Current Registered Nurse license in North Carolina or a compact state; pending licensure may be considered for submission
- At least 2 years of recent acute-care nursing experience with a strong orthopedic background
- Experience caring for orthopedic and neuro spine post-surgical patients is required
- Telemetry and EKG proficiency, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
- Epic electronic health record charting experience required
- Current BLS and NIHSS certifications
- Ability to start and maintain IVs and manage central lines, surgical drains, blood products, and PCA therapy
- ACLS, charge nurse experience, and Level I trauma experience are preferred
- Must be willing to complete required pre-start screening and testing within the designated timeframe
- Must be able to successfully complete EKG testing before the assignment begins
Travel RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care for adult orthopedic, neuro spine, medical-surgical, and post-surgical patients.
- Monitor telemetry and recognize, interpret, and respond to changes in cardiac rhythms.
- Manage complex post-operative pain regimens, including multiple pain medications, PCA therapy, and peripheral nerve block catheters when applicable.
- Care for patients recovering from total joint replacement, orthopedic trauma, spinal procedures, and other major surgeries.
- Perform focused assessments, administer medications, manage IV therapy, and monitor surgical drains and central lines.
- Support oxygen therapy and non-invasive airway management, including nasal cannula, high-flow oxygen, BiPAP, and CPAP as appropriate.
- Apply isolation precautions, maintain patient safety, and promptly escalate changes in condition.
- Collaborate with providers, therapy services, respiratory care, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
- Float to nearby medical-surgical units when needed while maintaining high standards of patient-centered care and service.
