Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg-Tele RN with ortho experience and Epic charting skills for a fast-paced orthopedic and neuro spine unit.

Details

  • Med/Surg-Tele unit within a hospital setting
  • Patient population includes orthopedic, neuro spine, med-surg, and post-surgical patients
  • 39-bed unit with an average daily census of 37
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio typically 5-6:1, flexing up to 7:1 in extreme cases
  • Night shift, 12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15
  • 36 or 48 hours per week available
  • Block scheduling option available (F/S/S or S/S/M)
  • Required to float to other med surg units within the facility based on census needs
  • Every other weekend required, with missed weekend shifts requiring makeup
  • Uses Epic EMR

Requirements

  • Active RN license, NC or Compact
  • Current certifications: BLS and NIHSS required; ACLS preferred
  • Minimum 2 years of inpatient acute care experience required, including at least 1 year of ortho experience
  • Epic charting experience required
  • Skills required: IV starts and telemetry monitoring
  • Charge nurse experience preferred
  • Level I Trauma experience preferred
  • First-time travelers considered if they have Epic experience

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care for ortho, neuro spine, and post-surgical patients requiring close pain management in a fast-paced environment
  • Manage patients with conditions such as spinal cord injury, total joint replacement, ortho trauma, and peripheral nerve block catheters
  • Perform cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and respond to rapid response/code situations
  • Administer respiratory support including BiPAP/CPAP, high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen therapy
  • Manage central and peripheral lines, blood product administration, and heparin protocols
  • Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
  • Weekly orientation provided
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays; no RTO approved during holidays
  • Up to 7 days of RTO can be auto-approved if not falling on a holiday; no RTO allowed during first week of assignment
  • Local candidates accepted at a lower rate within 50 miles of the facility
  • Former Novant Health or New Hanover PERM/PRN/EP employees must wait 12 months before reapplying and disclose employment history
  • Travel pairs allowed if on different units and each has their own transportation
