Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for an oncology unit requiring an OH or compact license and at least 2 years of recent Med Surg/Tele experience.

Details

  • Oncology unit providing care to adult and geriatric patients with cancers including endometrial, bladder, renal, ovarian, and cervical cancers
  • Unit specializes in chemotherapy, clinical trials, brachytherapy, and CBI treatments
  • Staffing ratios target 1:4 but may be adjusted to 1:5 based on unit needs
  • 12-hour rotating day/night shift contract; shift assignments reviewed every 4-week scheduling period based on staffing needs
  • Weekend scheduling is variable based on unit needs
  • Uses Epic charting system
  • No set or blocked scheduling requests accommodated

Requirements

  • Active OH or compact RN license required in hand at time of consideration
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of current Med Surg/Tele nursing experience, consistently worked within the last 12 months and in the specialty applied for
  • ONS Chemotherapy certification preferred
  • Proficiency interpreting and managing dysrhythmias and responding to cardiac emergencies
  • Experience administering and monitoring chemotherapy preferred
  • Experience with PCA medications and surgical drains preferred
  • Skills in tracheostomy care/management
  • Education must be from an ACEN or CCNE accredited program
  • 2 professional references required, with at least one from a manager/director or formal leadership role; charge RN acceptable as second reference; coworker references not accepted

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to adult and geriatric oncology patients, ensuring physical and emotional well-being
  • Administer chemotherapy and monitor for adverse reactions
  • Participate in clinical trials, assisting with data collection and documentation
  • Perform specialized procedures such as brachytherapy and neobladder care
  • Implement infection prevention protocols and manage patient fall risks
  • Monitor telemetry and respond to changes in patient condition, utilizing rapid response teams as needed
  • Perform feeding tube care, IV therapy, blood product administration, and central line maintenance
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams
  • First-time travelers are welcome, with an emphasis on willingness to learn and grow nursing practice
  • Local candidates accepted at the same rate
  • Former employees eligible for travel assignment after being away from the facility for 6 months or more
  • Current employees of the health system are ineligible for travel assignments at this facility
  • RTO must be submitted with application and built into the contract, limited to 7 days or less
