Opportunity:

RN - Med Surg/Tele

Job Details:

• Work 12-hour shifts, either 7:00 AM to 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM to 7:00 AM
• Schedule cycle runs every 6 weeks with 5-6 weekend shifts out of every 12 shifts
• No on-call responsibilities
• Holiday expectations include working one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after, 12/24 or 12/25, and 12/31 or 1/1)
• RTO requests must go through Manager for approval
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
• First-time travelers accepted
• BLS required; ACLS preferred with EKG competency exam required during onboarding
• Certification in Med Surg is a plus
• Patient ratios: RN 1:4-6, LPN 1:4-6, CNA up to 1:14
• Care for patients with acute or chronic disease, common co-morbidities including diabetes, hypertension, infections, and electrolyte imbalances
• Cardiac patients include post-cath, CHF, and a-fib; post-surgical patients include general, ortho, and trauma
• Required skills include trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts and IV maintenance, glucommander, strong assessment and time management skills, care coordination with interdisciplinary team, discharge planning, and patient education
• Telemetry skills required: monitoring and interpreting cardiac rhythms, post-cath care, TR bands, and post-cath groin site management (no sheath pulls)
• Required drip management includes insulin, heparin, Cardizem, amiodarone, milrinone, Digoxin, and nicardipine; titration for HR but not BP
• EMR system: EPIC
• IV Pump: Alaris; Med dispensing: Pyxis; Monitors: Phillips
• Unit-specific equipment includes VS3 vital sign monitors and Nova Glucose Stat Strips
• Travelers will be required to float to all Med/Tele units in house as needed
• Support staff includes CNAs, unit secretaries (on unit 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM), charge nurses, PICC team, discharge nurses, resource team, RT 24/7, hospitalist 24/7, and intensivist 24/7
• Central telemetry unit available for telemetry monitoring
• Scrub color: Navy for RN, Ceil Blue for LPN
• Free parking available around campus

This facility is a large, comprehensive medical center with 637 licensed beds and a Level 1 Trauma designation. It operates as a teaching hospital and houses specialized centers including a Chest Pain Center and a Stroke Center. The facility supports a busy, team-oriented culture across multiple Med/Tele units ranging from 20 to 36 beds each, with robust support services including 24/7 hospitalist, intensivist, and respiratory therapy coverage.
