Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced Med/Surg-Tele RN for a night shift position at a Level I Trauma teaching hospital, requiring NC or compact RN licensure and prior telemetry experience.

Details

  • Med/Surg-Tele unit within an ADTU and satellite unit structure focused on decompressing the ED and other specialty areas
  • Adult and geriatric patient population with diagnoses including COPD exacerbation, pneumonia, CHF exacerbation, falls with injuries, MVC injuries, pulmonary embolism, DVT, UTI, pneumothorax, GI bleeds, and CVA
  • RN patient ratios range from 1:4 to 1:6-8 depending on unit and acuity
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1900-0700), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within assigned region and scope of practice, potentially to multiple facilities
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Philips monitors
  • Telemetry monitoring performed by unit nurses with no dedicated tele tech support

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact)
  • Current certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • General Med/Tele skillset required including stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management, foley insertion/management, and PCA pump use
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
  • Epic EMR experience preferred
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive med-surg/tele nursing care including telemetry interpretation each shift
  • Work alongside a supportive care team including CNAs, unit secretaries, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, resource nurses, respiratory therapists, hospitalists, and intensivists available 24/7
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for approximately 75% of holidays
  • RTO requests of up to 6 days may be approved, excluding holidays; unmet contracted hours must be added to the end of the contract
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free parking available
  • Unit culture is described as a close, family-like environment
  • Traveler's permanent address must be more than 50 miles from the home unit; local candidates not accepted
  • Returning travelers must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
  • First-time travelers not preferred but may be considered
