Description

American Traveler is seeking an RN - Med/Surg Tele for a Level 1 Trauma academic medical center, requiring an active NC or compact RN license and at least 1 year of specialty experience.

Details

  • 8-bed Med/Surg Tele overflow unit within an academic medical center
  • General medical patient population including cardiac, pneumonia, UTI, chest pain, and fluid overload cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:4 and CNA ratio of 1:8
  • 12-hour night shifts from 1900-0700, averaging 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend (EOW) rotation required
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to Rehab, 4 Ardmore, 10 Reynolds, 9 Reynolds, 5 Ardmore, Burn-10 North, and Throughput Unit
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing system
  • Telemetry monitors present on unit with RN responsible for cardiac rhythm strip interpretation

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 1 year of core work experience in the specialty area, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Travel experience preferred
  • Skills required include PCA management, surgical drain care, wound care, and telemetry/cardiac rhythm interpretation
  • Cardizem/Amiodarone drip experience preferred, willingness to learn required if not experienced
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full date of birth required for consideration
  • 1 professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Deliver care within a Level 1 Trauma, Chest Pain Center, and Stroke Center designated academic teaching hospital
  • Supported by CNAs, a receptionist/HUC, and a charge nurse who primarily floats but may occasionally carry a full assignment
  • RT, hospitalist, and intensivist coverage available 24/7
  • RNs perform their own peripheral IV starts as no dedicated IV/VAT team is available
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Royal blue scrub color required
  • Free parking available
  • Unit culture described as friendly within an academic medical center setting
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of designated holidays
  • Clinical interview required prior to placement
  • Must reside outside a 50-mile radius as local candidates are not accepted for this position
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position
