Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN - Med/Surg Tele for a Night Shift position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Emergency Observation Unit within a Trauma Level III, teaching hospital
  • 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour Night Shift schedule, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Floating required to other units and facilities within the region, within scope of practice
  • EPIC EMR used, along with Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required, with most recent experience within the last year
  • Skilled in cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP, flexiseal, foley)
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • At least 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care within a Med/Surg Tele unit supported by a Charge RN, Resource RN, Respiratory Therapy, Hospitalist, and IV/VAT team
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Travelers must be separated from any Advocate Health Southeast facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before returning
  • Must reside more than 50 miles from the home unit to qualify for this position
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with any shortfall added to the end of the contract
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free employee parking provided
  • Unit known for a strong team culture, including a book club and group activities
