Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position in an Emergency Observation Unit, requiring 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience and NC or compact RN licensure.

Details

  • Work in the Emergency Observation Unit of a Trauma Level III teaching hospital
  • 10-bed unit with an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
  • EPIC EMR used
  • Alaris IV pumps and Omnicell medication dispensing system used
  • 12-hour night shift schedule, 7p-7a, 36 hours per week
  • Every other weekend rotation required
  • Floating required within the designated region to other nursing units and facilities based on staffing needs, within scope of practice
  • No on-call or call-back requirements

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skills required include stroke care, cardiac rhythm interpretation, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG tubes, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley insertion/management), and PCA pump management
  • Experience managing medication drips including cardiac drips, Heparin, blood products, and IVF
  • EPIC EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • Minimum 1 professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN

Additional Information

  • Provide Med/Surg Tele nursing care within a supportive team environment including a Supervisor, Charge RN, and Resource RN for admissions/discharges
  • 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist support available, though not dedicated to this unit
  • Phlebotomy is a combined effort between RNs and the IV/VAT team
  • Travelers will be first to float and should be comfortable providing flexible staffing support across units, including Med/Surg assignments in ICU or Med/Surg holds in the ED
  • Orientation includes New Employee Orientation (NEO) and 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 days of RTO may be approved, excluding holidays, with contract extension required if contracted hours are not met
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free employee parking deck available
  • Positive department culture with team activities such as a unit book club and Netflix watching club
  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible
  • Returning employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year after working a permanent position
