Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele position on a busy Emergency Observation Unit requiring NIHSS certification and prior cardiac telemetry experience.

Details

  • Emergency Observation Unit with 10 beds and an average daily census of 8 patients
  • Patient population includes chest pain, syncope, and angina cases
  • RN to patient ratio of 1:5 and CNA ratio of 1:10
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (7p-7a) at 36 hours per week on a 6-week cycle
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Omnicell medication dispensing
  • Weekend rotation every other weekend
  • No on-call or call-back requirements
  • Priority floating assignment to other units within scope of practice, including MedSurg holds in ED and MedSurg assignments in ICU
  • May be required to float to other facilities within the region as needed, with pay continuing during transit

Requirements

  • Active RN license (NC or Compact) required
  • BLS and ACLS certification required
  • NIHSS certification required for resource team responsibilities
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience required
  • Skills required include cardiac rhythm interpretation, stroke care, trach care, PIV starts, chest tube management, NGT placement, and drain/tube management (Dobhoff, PEG, Hemovac, JP drains, flexiseals, foley)
  • Experience managing PCA pumps and medication drips including cardiac drips, heparin, blood products, and IV fluids required
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Last 4 digits of SSN and full DOB required for consideration
  • One professional reference dated within the last year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Work in a Trauma Level III teaching hospital that is a Chest Pain Center, Stroke Center of Excellence, and Bariatric Center of Excellence
  • Support team includes a Supervisor, Charge RN, Resource RN, 24/7 Respiratory Therapy and Hospitalist coverage, and a dedicated IV/VAT team
  • Orientation includes NEO plus 2 days of departmental orientation
  • Holiday coverage required for 75% of holidays
  • Up to 6 RTO days may be approved, excluding holidays, with any shortfall added to the end of the contract
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Free employee parking available

  • First-time travelers not preferred but will be considered
  • Candidates must live at least 50 miles from the facility, and local candidates are not accepted
  • Previous employees must be separated from any AHSE facility for at least 1 year following a permanent position before being eligible
