Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Tele unit requiring 2+ years of Med/Surg Tele experience and strong IV skills.

Details

  • Acute care setting in a Med/Surg/Tele unit at a busy Level 1 Trauma hospital
  • 28-bed unit with high-acuity patient population including pulmonary (cystic fibrosis), pneumonia, liver overflow, sickle cell, and geriatric patients requiring frequent pain management
  • Nurse to patient ratio goal of 1:5, flexing up to 1:6 depending on staffing
  • 12-hour day shifts, clocking in at 6:38 and out at 7:15
  • Every other weekend required
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Travelers float first, to other Med/Surg acuity areas
  • Charge nurse available every shift with a reduced patient assignment
  • Nurse aide support, goal of 3 per shift though typically 2
  • EPIC EMR used
  • RNs titrate drips including heparin, amiodarone, and blood transfusions
  • RNs must be able to read and interpret telemetry strips independently (monitor techs are on a different unit)
  • Respiratory equipment includes nasal cannula, home CPAP/BiPAP regimens, and occasional tracheostomy patients
  • No self-scheduling available; schedule set by manager

Requirements

  • Active TX or Compact RN license
  • Current BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg/Tele experience required
  • Strong IV start skills required
  • Experience titrating cardiac drips required for floating assignments
  • Must be able to hit the ground running with minimal ramp-up time
  • EPIC experience required
  • Candidates with 3+ years of experience and prior travel experience in a busy hospital setting are most successful in this role

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care on a high-demand, high-acuity Med/Surg/Tele unit
  • Strong teamwork culture on the unit
  • 2 days of unit/department-specific orientation provided
  • Teal scrub color required
  • Will take a Relias EKG exam prior to orientation start
  • Must be flexible to fill in where needed as part of core staff holiday rotation
  • Unable to use PTO from 12/10 through the first week of January per facility policy
  • Candidates must be flexible with scheduling due to no self-scheduling option
  • First-time travelers are not typically successful in this role; prior travel experience strongly preferred
