Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- At least 1.5 years of Registered Nurse experience in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting
- At least 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in a large hospital of approximately 450 beds or more
- Active Indiana RN license or eligible compact RN license
- Current BLS certification through the American Heart Association
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
- Ability to float to other medical units based on patient-care needs
- Comfort caring for patients with complex medical and surgical conditions in an acute-care hospital
Travel Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients in an acute-care setting
- Assess patients, develop and update nursing care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient outcomes
- Care for patients with conditions including COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal disorders, pneumonia, cellulitis, sepsis, stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries, and behavioral health concerns
- Monitor and manage telemetry, IV therapy, heparin and insulin infusions, feeding tubes and pumps, chest tubes, wound vacs, and other medical-surgical equipment
- Assist with care surrounding procedures such as colonoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, bronchoscopy, minor surgeries, biopsies, and incision and drainage
- Use Epic, Pyxis, Accu-Chek, IV pumps, sequential compression devices, and other unit equipment safely and effectively
- Collaborate with providers and interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, efficient, and patient-centered care
- Float to other medical units when needed while maintaining quality and continuity of care
