Med/Surg RN Job Requirements
- At least 1.5 years of Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care nursing experience
- At least 1 year of recent Med/Surg RN experience in a large hospital environment of approximately 450 beds or more
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association
- Strong assessment, prioritization, communication, and clinical judgment skills
- Comfort caring for diverse adult medical and surgical patient populations
Travel Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive medical-surgical nursing care, including patient assessments, care planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Care for patients with conditions such as COPD, diabetes, CHF, end-stage renal disease, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal disorders, infections, sepsis, stroke, dementia, traumatic brain injuries, and behavioral health concerns
- Manage patients before and after procedures including colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, minor surgery, biopsies, incision and drainage, and amputations
- Administer and monitor IV therapies, heparin and insulin infusions, feeding pumps, feeding tubes, chest tubes, wound vacs, telemetry, and other clinical equipment
- Use Epic, Pyxis, Accu-Chek, Hospira IV pumps, sequential compression devices, and other unit-based technology safely and accurately
- Communicate effectively with physicians and the interdisciplinary care team
- Float to other medical units as needed while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care
- Participate in hospital and nursing orientation, including Epic training, to support a smooth transition into the assignment
