Travel Nursing Job Details

- Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:5–6
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- At least 1.5 years of recent Registered Nurse experience in a Level I, Level II, or tertiary-care setting
- At least 1 year of Medical-Surgical nursing experience in a hospital with 450 or more beds
- Current Registered Nurse license in Indiana or a compact-state RN license
- Current Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, clinical judgment, and communication skills
- Ability to float to other Medical-Surgical units and work effectively in a changing acute-care environment
- Comfort with electronic health record documentation and common hospital equipment
Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with diverse medical and surgical diagnoses, including COPD, diabetes, CHF, renal disease, infections, gastrointestinal conditions, stroke, dementia, and behavioral health concerns.
- Complete head-to-toe assessments, develop and update individualized care plans, and evaluate patient progress.
- Administer medications and manage IV therapies, including heparin and insulin infusions, according to established protocols.
- Care for patients with feeding tubes, chest tubes, wound vacs, telemetry monitoring, and other acute-care needs.
- Monitor patients before and after procedures such as colonoscopy, bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, paracentesis, minor surgeries, and biopsies.
- Recognize changes in patient condition and promptly communicate concerns to providers and the interdisciplinary care team.
- Document assessments, interventions, medication administration, and patient responses accurately in Epic.
- Use equipment such as IV pumps, feeding pumps, Pyxis systems, glucose-monitoring devices, sequential compression devices, and heating or cooling modalities.
- Float to other Medical-Surgical units based on patient-care needs while maintaining safe, high-quality nursing practice.
- Participate in required onboarding and unit-based training, including Epic education.
