Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a Level I trauma acute care unit requiring at least 1 year of experience and central line, tracheostomy, and chest tube skills.

Details

  • Work in the Adult Medical Specialty Unit (AMSU) of an acute care hospital
  • 56-bed unit with private and semi-private rooms
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios of 1:4-5 on days and 1:5-6 on nights
  • Common diagnoses include cellulitis, sepsis, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, syncope, anemia, uncontrolled diabetes, acute respiratory failure, liver failure, kidney failure, and behavioral health/addictions
  • PCTs support the unit at a ratio of 1:8-10, assisting with vitals, accuchecks, bladder scans, and ADLs
  • Free charge RN available on each shift
  • House-wide telemetry monitored remotely using Phillips monitors, with RNs viewing strips via pack or computer
  • RT equipment includes Bipap/Cpap for sleep apnea, inhalers, and suctioning
  • RNs are not required to titrate drips, though Heparin and Lasix are common titratable drips on the unit
  • Schedule consists of 12-hour night shifts (7p-7:30a), three shifts per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend (Fri/Sat for nights)
  • Floating required on a rotational basis to other acute care gen med areas such as nephrology, neuro, ortho, and oncology
  • No call or standby requirements
  • Uses EPIC EMR

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license or confirmation that the application process has been initiated
  • BLS certification (AHA) required
  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience required
  • Experience with central lines, tracheostomies, and chest tubes required
  • EPIC experience preferred
  • Prior travel experience on a Med/Surg floor preferred, though candidates with Level I trauma center experience and EPIC experience will be considered without travel experience
  • Must pass a negative drug screen for all panels as OSF is a drug-free campus

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care to a general medical acute care population with a variety of complex diagnoses
  • Unit/department-specific orientation consists of 2-3 shifts
  • Holiday coverage requirements vary
  • Dress code allows any color professional scrubs; no visible tattoos or piercings except ears are permitted
  • Local candidates within 50 miles of the facility are eligible for a local pay rate
  • No radius rule applies for eligibility
