Medical-Surgical Registered Nurse (RN) – Urology/Nephrology | Travel Nursing Contract in Springfield, Illinois

Travel Nursing Job Details

- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990

- Nursing Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour day shifts
- Shift Hours: 6:45 a.m.–7:15 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: Not required
- Patient Population: Adults
- Healthcare Unit: 25-bed Urology/Nephrology medical-surgical unit with an average daily census of 23
- Floating: To other medical-surgical units within scope
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner
- Scrubs: Any solid color
Medical-Surgical RN Job Requirements
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of application
- Minimum of 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience; MS/Telemetry experience is required
- Current BLS certification
- Previous charge nurse experience
- Recent Cerner charting experience
- Experience with telemetry and remote cardiac monitoring, rapid response teams, and emergency response
- Clinical experience caring for patients with renal failure, including pre- and post-hemodialysis care, and urology/nephrology conditions
- Proficiency with IV therapy, central and PICC line management, blood product administration, phlebotomy, and starting IVs
- Experience managing chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, oxygen therapy, non-invasive airway management, and oral suctioning
- Knowledge of heparin administration, isolation precautions, wound care, and wound vac management
- Ability to float to other medical-surgical units within scope and work every other weekend
Medical-Surgical Nursing Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to adult patients with urologic, nephrology, renal, postoperative, and general medical-surgical diagnoses
- Care for patients with kidney stones, prostate and genitourinary cancers, end-stage kidney disease, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, cellulitis, and complex urologic surgical conditions
- Deliver postoperative care for kidney transplant patients and patients requiring continuous bladder irrigation
- Monitor and manage central and peripheral IVs, urinary catheters, nephrostomy tubes, ileal conduits, JP drains, chest tubes, and other specialized equipment
- Administer medications, including heparin, and safely manage blood products and IV therapies
- Recognize changes in patient condition, provide telemetry surveillance, and respond effectively to rapid response or emergency situations
- Perform patient assessments, medication administration, education, care coordination, and accurate documentation in Cerner
- Collaborate with IV teams, respiratory services, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Float within scope to support patient care needs across medical-surgical units
