Travel Med/Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Urology/Nephrology in Springfield, Illinois
Join a collaborative medical-surgical nursing team as a Travel Registered Nurse (RN) caring for adult patients in a busy Urology/Nephrology unit in Springfield, Illinois. This 13-week Illinois travel nursing assignment offers experienced acute-care nurses the opportunity to provide high-quality care for complex renal, urologic, postoperative, and medical-surgical conditions while expanding their clinical expertise.
Travel Nursing Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990

- Healthcare Setting: Acute-care medical-surgical unit specializing in Urology and Nephrology
- Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts
- Shift Hours: 6:45 a.m. – 7:15 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: Not required
- Floating: May float to other medical-surgical units within scope
- Patient Population: Adult patients

Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse (RN) license in hand at the time of application
- Minimum 2 years of recent medical-surgical nursing experience; first-time travelers with a strong clinical foundation are welcome
- Previous charge nurse experience required
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross; RQI cards are not accepted
- Recent experience providing medical-surgical and telemetry nursing care
- Cerner electronic health record (EHR) charting experience required
- Experience with telemetry remote monitoring and rapid response
- Experience caring for patients with renal failure, including pre- and post-hemodialysis management, as well as urology and nephrology conditions
- Proficiency with IV therapy, blood product administration, central-line blood draws, PICC-line management, peripheral-line care, and starting IVs
- Experience with chest tubes, CPAP/BiPAP, high-flow nasal cannula, non-invasive airway management, oxygen therapy, and oral suctioning
- Knowledge of isolation precautions, wound care, wound vacs, urinary catheters, drains, and continuous bladder irrigation
Med/Surg RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult medical-surgical patients with urologic, nephrologic, postoperative, and general medical conditions
- Care for patients with kidney stones, renal failure, urinary tract infections, complex urologic procedures, cancer-related diagnoses, and kidney transplant recovery needs
- Perform comprehensive nursing assessments, develop individualized care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient outcomes
- Manage telemetry monitoring and promptly recognize and report changes in patient condition
- Provide pre- and post-hemodialysis nursing care and support patients with renal complications
- Manage central and peripheral IV access, PICC lines, blood products, chest tubes, JP drains, nephrostomy tubes, urinary catheters, and ileal conduits
- Perform or assist with continuous bladder irrigation and hand irrigation according to clinical protocols
- Collaborate with physicians, rapid response teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rehabilitation, and other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
- Float to other medical-surgical units as needed while practicing within scope and maintaining quality patient care
- Support efficient admissions, discharges, transfers, patient education, and transition-of-care planning
