Med-Surg Registered Nurse (RN) – Travel Nursing Contract in Springfield, Illinois

Travel RN Job Details
- Weekly Estimated Pay: $1,890–$1,990
- Assignment Type: 13-week travel nurse contract
- Start Date: October 19, 2026
- End Date: January 18, 2027
- Healthcare Setting: On-site acute-care hospital; 24-bed general surgery unit
- Schedule: 36 hours per week; three 12-hour day shifts, with potential for four 12-hour shifts based on scheduling needs
- Nursing Shift: Days, approximately 6:45 a.m. to 7:15 p.m.
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Call: Not required
- Floating: Required within the nurse’s scope of practice to meet patient-care needs
- Electronic Medical Record: Cerner experience preferred
Med-Surg RN Job Requirements
- Minimum of 2 years of recent medical-surgical Registered Nurse experience
- Active Illinois Registered Nurse license in hand at the time of application
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience managing PICC lines and starting peripheral IVs
- Competence with blood product administration, feeding tubes, surgical drains, wound care and wound vacs, urinary catheters, continuous bladder irrigation, ostomy care, and tracheostomy care
- Willingness to care for tracheostomy and laryngectomy patients; previous experience is helpful but not required
- Ability to manage patient assignments of up to 1:7 when unit needs require
- Strong patient assessment, prioritization, communication, and interdisciplinary teamwork skills
Medical-Surgical RN Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric medical-surgical patients
- Complete focused and comprehensive patient assessments, develop care plans, administer medications, and evaluate patient responses
- Perform and document PICC line care, IV starts, central-line dressing changes, blood transfusions, wound care, drain care, and dressing changes
- Provide care for patients with feeding tubes, ostomies, urinary catheters, continuous bladder irrigation, tracheostomies, and laryngectomies
- Assist with nasogastric tube insertion, drain removal and flushing, suture and staple removal, and other unit-based procedures
- Monitor patients using equipment such as continuous pulse oximetry, infusion pumps, wound vacs, patient-controlled analgesia pumps, bladder scanners, and suction devices
- Collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary care team to promote quality patient outcomes and timely discharge planning
- Float to other appropriate areas or affiliated units as needed while practicing within scope and competency
- Participate in required orientation and complete assigned pre-start learning modules by the stated deadlines
