Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg RN for a night shift position requiring 2+ years of specialty experience and cardiac telemetry skills.

Details

• Medical Surgical unit with cardiac telemetry overflow capabilities
• Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts from 18:45 to 7:15
• Patient population includes chest pain, CAD, PVD, arrhythmias, DM, COPD exacerbation, PNA, HTN, MI, renal failure, PE, CHF, GI bleed, and syncope
• Potential for med-surg overflow patients including GI bleed, sepsis, CVA, and COVID positive cases
• Care for pre/post cath lab, PPM/AICD, ablations, post-op CABG, post-op thoracotomy, vascular surgeries (CEAs, fem-pops), and AAA repair patients
• Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips including Cardizem, Amiodarone, Dobutamine, Nitroglycerin, Dopamine, and heparin
• Performs bedside sheath pulling
• Uses telemetry monitoring, chest tubes, PCAs, epidurals, and wound vacs
• Patient ratio of 1:6
• Epic charting system experience preferred
• Can be pulled to all other inpatient units
• No call requirements
• No guarantee of specific scheduling requests such as block scheduling

Requirements

• Active RN license (LA state or compact) in hand upon submission
• BLS certification required
• ACLS, CPI, and NIHSS certifications preferred
• Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg or specialty RN experience required
• Skilled in IV therapy/phlebotomy, port access/management, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, and IV starts
• Experience with BiPAP/CPAP management, chest tube care (Emerson/PleurEvac), high flow nasal cannula, and oxygen administration
• Experience managing feeding tubes, heparin protocols, and IV insulin protocols
• Skilled in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and use of rapid response/code teams
• Experience with wound care/wound vac management and isolation precautions/PPE
• Experience with pre/post cardiac angiogram, pre/post cardiac cath, pre/post cardiac surgery, and sheath removal
• Experience with pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care
• Current NURSYS report required, updated within 4 weeks of consideration

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care to a cardiac telemetry and medical surgical population, including drip titration and cardiac monitoring
• Must reside more than 65 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Every other holiday coverage required, along with willingness to work 2 of 4 designated holiday periods annually (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's)
• Orientation held five days per week
• May be assigned to an emergency response team requiring on-site presence during declared emergency events
• Two Manager/Supervisor references required prior to start (Charge RNs not accepted)
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Candidates who previously worked as permanent staff or in-house agency contractors must have a one-year separation before returning as a traveler
