Join our team as a Med Surg Registered Nurse (RN) in Montgomery, AL, where you will have the opportunity to work in a leading acute-care hospital. We welcome first-time travelers with a minimum of 18 months of experience in Med Surg and/or ICU, particularly those with EPIC or Cerner experience. If your experience is strictly in ICU, Cerner proficiency is required.

As a Med Surg RN, you will be assigned a home unit on your first day of orientation, with the following patient care responsibilities:

• 6 North Trauma Surgical: 23 beds, caring for patients undergoing general surgery and vascular surgeries. Patient ratios are 1:5-6. Skills required include trauma/surgical experience, wound care, chest tubes, NGT, IV skills, and medication administration/documentation.
• 5 South Neuroscience: 33 beds, focusing on CVA, TBI, seizure, AMS, spinal fusion, craniotomy, and degenerative diseases. Patient ratios are 1:5-6. Skills include IV start, blood draws from central lines, trach care, PEG, NGT, colostomy/ostomy, and surgical site care.
• 5 North MedSurg/Oncology: 39 beds, handling various patient types except stroke and MI, including palliative care and MS/Oncology patients. Ratios are 1:6 for RNs and LPNs. Skills preferred include chemo administration (if certified), trach care, chest tubes, and IV starts.
• 4 South Clinical Decision Unit: 18 beds, managing general Med Surg patients with conditions like COPD, CHF, diabetes, and sepsis. Ratios are 1:5-6. Skills include assessment, prioritization, tracheotomy care, and wound care.
• 3 South Orthopedics: 20 beds, focused on orthopedic and spine patients. Ratios are 1:5-6. Skills include PCA pumps and wound care.
• 3 North MS/Ortho/Urology: 23 beds, treating urology, ENT, ortho, and Med Surg patients. Ratios are 1:5-6. Skills required include trach care and wound care.

Required certifications include BLS and NIHSS. Support on the unit includes CNAs with a ratio of 1:6 for vital signs and ADLs, along with a charge nurse who rarely takes assignments. The facility utilizes Cerner EMR, and telemetry monitoring is conducted by techs, with RNs required to interpret and confirm telemetry readings every four hours.

Orientation for travelers new to the facility or returning after more than a year includes 24 hours of classroom time and 24 hours on the unit. Scheduling includes a weekend rotation every other weekend or four weekend days per month, with one major and one minor holiday expected per policy.

Scrubs can be any color, and parking is available in a designated parking deck on levels 2 through 4.
