Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring a WI or compact license, 2 years of MedSurg experience, and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Hospital setting within a 101-licensed-bed, Level IV Trauma Center and Primary Stroke Center
  • Nursing Float Pool position covering multiple Med/Surg units including General Medical Surgical, Ortho/Neuro, and Cardiac, as well as ER Holding/Boarding
  • Care for surgical patients (gallbladder, appendectomy, colectomy, ostomy, TURP) and general medical patients (cellulitis, GI bleeds, CHF, COPD, outpatient infusions)
  • Care for oncology patients, including those receiving chemotherapy, without administering chemo
  • Occasional pediatric patients over 1 year old on the floor, though no pediatric patients will be assigned and no peds experience is required
  • Ortho/Neuro unit includes total joint replacements, spine surgeries, strokes, TIA, and altered mental status observation
  • Cardiac unit includes post-procedure care (cath, TEE, cardioversion) and general cardiac conditions such as heart failure and arrhythmias
  • Patient ratios are 1:4-6 during days and 1:6 at night
  • 12-hour night shift schedule (1845-0715), 36 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation required every other weekend
  • Floating required throughout the hospital wherever Med/Surg patients are located, with frequent floats to ER Holding/Boarding
  • No on-call requirements
  • Uses Epic EMR, Alaris IV pumps, and Pyxis medication dispensing system

Requirements

  • Active WI or compact RN license required
  • BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of Med/Surg experience required
  • Experience with chest tubes, stable trach management, IV skills, port/central lines, foley insertion/care, and feeding tubes required
  • Familiarity with CPAP/BiPAP/Airvo required, though respiratory therapy manages this equipment
  • Cardiac rhythm interpretation skills required
  • Experience titrating drips such as Cardizem, amiodarone, insulin, and argatroban preferred; manager approval required if no prior experience
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Candidate’s middle name/initial, date of birth, and last four digits of SSN required for consideration
  • At least one professional reference dated within the past year from a Supervisor, Manager, Director, or Charge RN required

Additional Information

  • Deliver Med/Surg nursing care across multiple units and patient populations, adapting to varying acuity levels
  • Support from HUC (days only), CNAs, charge nurse, phlebotomy for peripheral draws, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and 24/7 hospitalist coverage via secure Epic chat
  • OT, PT, and ST support available on weekdays with limited weekend hours
  • Remote tele monitoring supported by tele techs, though nurses may be asked to monitor patients if tele tech coverage is short
  • Orientation includes one full shift for login access and paperwork, followed by unit-specific orientation determined by the manager
  • Schedules are built 4-6 weeks in advance and provided 2 weeks prior; block scheduling may be considered upon request but is not guaranteed
  • RTO requests are approved through the manager
  • Holiday coverage may include up to 50% of holidays during the contract
  • Scrub attire must be a solid, professional color with no graphics, logos, or designs
  • Free parking is available on site
