Description

American Traveler is hiring a RN for a Med/Surg Float Pool position requiring at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience and an active AL or compact RN license.

Details

  • Staff Float Pool Med/Surg role within a 492-bed Level II Trauma Center with Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center designation
  • Home unit assigned on first day of orientation, with possible units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and MS/Ortho/Urology
  • Patient ratios range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on unit
  • 12-hour night shifts, 36-48 hours per week, starting at 7:00pm
  • Weekend rotation of every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required to like units or for ICU/ER/MS task assignments within defined limits
  • EMR: Cerner (preferred)
  • Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
  • Telemetry monitored by techs, but RNs required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours

Requirements

  • Active RN license (AL or Compact) required
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg experience required
  • Cerner or Epic EMR experience required
  • Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tubes, NGT, trach care, ostomy care, PICC/CVL dressing changes, IV starts, and PCA pump management
  • Experience with chemo administration preferred for Oncology unit, certification required if applicable

Additional Information

  • Provide direct patient care across multiple Med/Surg specialty units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology, Orthopedics, and Urology
  • Support staff includes CNAs, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs
  • New or returning travelers (gone 1+ years) receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on-unit training
  • Rehire orientation length depends on last date worked at facility
  • Perm staff must wait 6 months after last shift before returning as a traveler
  • Holiday coverage expected for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy
  • Scrub color is unrestricted
  • Parking available in designated deck levels 2-4
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply
  • Must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to qualify as a traveler
