Description

American Traveler is seeking a Registered Nurse for a Med/Surg float pool position requiring an active AL or compact RN license and at least 18 months of Med/Surg experience.

Details

• Float pool position covering multiple Med/Surg and specialty units including Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, Oncology/MedSurg, Clinical Decision Unit, Orthopedics, and Urology/ENT/MedSurg
• 12-hour night shifts, 7:00 pm start, scheduled 36-48 hours per week on a 4-week self-scheduling cycle via Smart Square
• Patient ratios vary by unit, generally ranging from 1:5 to 1:6
• Care for diverse patient populations including general surgery, vascular, neuro, oncology, ortho, and general medical conditions such as COPD, CHF, sepsis, and renal failure
• Cerner EMR preferred for charting
• Uses Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors
• Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs must interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours
• Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month)
• No on-call requirements
• Floating required to like units such as MedSurg to MedSurg, MedSurg to ICU tasking, or MedSurg to ER holds

Requirements

• Active AL or compact RN license required
• Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 18 months of Med/Surg experience required
• Epic or Cerner EMR experience required
• Experience with wound care, IV starts, chest tubes, NGT, PEG, trach care, and medication administration
• Skills in ostomy/colostomy care, foley catheter management, and central line dressing changes preferred depending on unit assignment
• Ability to prioritize, assess, and document effectively in a fast-paced clinical environment

Additional Information

• Will be assigned a home unit on the first day of orientation
• New-to-facility or returning travelers gone 1+ years receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours of unit orientation
• Holiday coverage required for one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though specific days off are not guaranteed prior to arrival
• RTO requests are limited due to facility blackout dates throughout the year, including major holidays and several weekends
• Any scrub color permitted
• Parking available in designated deck levels 2 through 4
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• Previous staff must have a 6-month gap since their last shift before returning as a traveler
• Candidates must reside more than 60 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted for this position
