Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (RN)

Position Overview

This position is for a registered nurse in the Labor and Delivery unit within a Family Birthing Center. The role requires a commitment to night shifts and the ability to float to other areas as needed.

Shift Details

Shift: Nights
Length: 12-hour shifts
Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
Weekend Requirement: 3 weekend shifts in a 4-week schedule
Holidays: Participation in the permanent staff holiday rotation

Unit Information

Unit: Family Birthing Center
Bed Capacity: 19 postpartum, 12 labor and delivery, 2 operating rooms, 1 PACU
Patient Ratios: 1:4 in postpartum, 1:1 in labor and delivery
Common Diagnoses: Low and high-risk deliveries, with a Level III NICU available
Floating: Will float to Pediatrics and NICU as needed, based on experience

Responsibilities

Providing comprehensive nursing care to laboring patients
Monitoring the fetal heart rate and maternal vital signs
Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team for patient care
Participating in staff development and continuing education programs
Completing a proctored Dysrhythmia Test on the first day of orientation

Qualifications

Years of Experience: Minimum of 2 years in a Labor and Delivery setting
Required Certifications:
- ACLS
- Advanced Fetal Monitoring
- BLS Certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- COVID vaccine required

Additional Information

The unit uses Cerner and Fetal Link for electronic medical records and monitoring. There is no telemetry or IV team on site, but respiratory therapy and pharmacy services are available 24/7.

Orientation to the unit lasts 2-3 shifts depending on the ability to circulate.
