Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

  • Active Registered Nurse license in Washington or a compact RN license in hand at submission
  • At least 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
  • Current BLS/BCLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications
  • AWHONN Intermediate fetal monitoring or Relias fetal monitoring certification; AWHONN Advanced experience is welcomed
  • Strong experience with sterile vaginal examinations; this is a required competency
  • Recent experience caring for high-risk perinatal patients in a busy Labor & Delivery setting
  • Experience with electronic fetal monitoring and Epic documentation
  • Demonstrated competency with vaginal delivery, cesarean section support, postpartum and couplet care, antepartum care, fetal monitoring, and newborn assessment
  • Ability to float to Postpartum and support changing unit needs
  • Availability to work weekends and 3 of 5 designated holidays during the assignment
  • Travel nurses new to travel assignments are welcome to apply
  • Local candidates within a 50-mile radius are not eligible for this assignment

Travel Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

  • Deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients experiencing routine and high-risk labor, delivery, antepartum, and postpartum conditions
  • Perform patient assessments, sterile vaginal examinations, triage evaluations, and ongoing maternal-fetal monitoring
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns, preeclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP syndrome, preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, and postpartum hemorrhage
  • Administer and monitor therapies including Pitocin, magnesium sulfate, antihypertensives, insulin infusions, terbutaline, epidural anesthesia, and blood products as indicated
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries, high-risk deliveries, forceps or vacuum-assisted deliveries, VBACs, and cesarean sections
  • Circulate for cesarean procedures and recover patients following delivery and surgery
  • Provide newborn assessment, APGAR scoring, neonatal resuscitation, thermoregulation, cord care, and identification of newborn complications
  • Support breastfeeding, lactation education, parent teaching, discharge planning, and couplet care
  • Maintain accurate patient records and care plans in Epic
  • Collaborate with physicians, midwives, anesthesia providers, surgical teams, neonatal specialists, and interdisciplinary support services
  • Float to Postpartum or affiliated units when needed while maintaining quality, compassionate patient care
