Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse (L&D RN) – Seattle, WA Travel Nursing Contract

- Schedule: 36 hours per week; 12-hour night shifts from approximately 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m.
- Scheduling: Schedule posted approximately every six weeks based on unit needs; weekend and holiday coverage required
- Patient Volume: Approximately 15–17 patients per day and more than 500 deliveries per month
- Orientation: 36 hours
- Charting Systems: Epic electronic fetal monitoring and OBIX
Travel Labor & Delivery RN Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Washington; compact license must be active and in hand when required
- At least 1 year of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Recent high-risk Labor & Delivery experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment
- Experience functioning as the baby nurse during delivery and continuing newborn care until transfer to postpartum
- Ability to circulate for Cesarean sections
- Current BLS and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications
- Epic and electronic fetal monitoring experience required
- AWHONN Intermediate or Advanced certification preferred
- Ability to float to applicable postpartum or antepartum assignments and provide support in other units when needed
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and three of five designated winter holidays as scheduled
- Two professional references covering recent nursing experience may be required
Labor & Delivery RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum care
- Care for high-risk obstetric patients, including those requiring magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, and other specialized interventions
- Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns using electronic fetal monitoring
- Assist with high-risk vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, forceps and vacuum-assisted deliveries, and multiple births
- Circulate for Cesarean sections and support the surgical team in accordance with established standards
- Function as the baby nurse during delivery, providing newborn assessment, identification and security banding, thermoregulation, cord care, APGAR scoring, and routine newborn medications and care
- Administer newborn eye prophylaxis and Vitamin K injections as ordered
- Support newborn stabilization and neonatal resuscitation when indicated
- Perform maternal assessments, including fundus, lochia, perineum, pain, and hemorrhage evaluations
- Manage IVs, infusion pumps, Foley catheters, epidural-related care, Pitocin, and other obstetric medications and therapies
- Provide breastfeeding and lactation support, patient education, and discharge teaching
- Collaborate with physicians, midwives, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the care team
- Float to postpartum or antepartum areas and provide appropriate support in other units when assigned
