Travel Registered Nurse (RN) – Labor & Delivery (L&D) | Seattle, WA

Experienced Labor & Delivery RN needed for a high-acuity travel nursing contract in Seattle, Washington. Join a high-volume maternal-child health team and make a meaningful impact during some of life’s most important moments. This travel assignment is ideal for an experienced L&D nurse who is confident caring for high-risk patients, circulating for Cesarean sections, and serving as the baby nurse from delivery through transfer to postpartum. You’ll work in a collaborative environment that follows AWHONN guidelines and supports approximately 15–17 patients per day and more than 500 deliveries each month.

Travel Nursing Job Details

  • Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Schedule: Posted approximately every six weeks according to unit needs; weekend and holiday coverage required as scheduled
  • Healthcare Setting: High-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery
  • Unit Capacity: 31 rooms and 31 beds, with four operating rooms
  • Patient Population: Adults and neonates, including high-risk antepartum and delivery patients
  • Electronic Health Record: Epic with electronic fetal monitoring documentation

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license eligible for practice in Washington; an active compact license must be in hand when applicable
  • At least 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
  • High-risk Labor & Delivery experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity hospital setting
  • Demonstrated ability to circulate for Cesarean sections
  • Experience functioning as a baby nurse, including newborn care through transfer to postpartum
  • Current BLS certification
  • Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Epic charting experience, including electronic fetal monitoring documentation
  • Ability to support postpartum and antepartum patients when floating is needed
  • Preferred: ACLS, AWHONN Advanced, and/or AWHONN Intermediate certification
  • Strong patient assessment, communication, prioritization, critical-thinking, and teamwork skills

Travel L&D Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients throughout labor, delivery, recovery, and immediate postpartum transition
  • Care for high-risk antepartum and intrapartum patients, including those requiring magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, anticoagulation therapy, and antihypertensive medications
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and obstetric emergencies
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries, operative deliveries, forceps or vacuum extractions, and Cesarean sections
  • Circulate for Cesarean sections and other applicable operative procedures
  • Serve as the baby nurse during delivery and continue newborn care until transfer to postpartum
  • Perform newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, identification and security banding, cord care, thermoregulation, and administration of routine newborn medications, including vitamin K and eye prophylaxis
  • Support newborns requiring care for hypoglycemia or other immediate post-delivery concerns
  • Manage fetal monitoring, IV therapy, infusion pumps, Foley catheters, epidural-related care, Pitocin, and other Labor & Delivery interventions
  • Provide patient education, breastfeeding and lactation support, pain management, and emotional support
  • Complete postpartum assessments, including fundus, lochia, perineum, wound, and hemorrhage evaluation
  • Document accurately in Epic and electronic fetal monitoring systems while following AWHONN-informed practices
  • Float to postpartum or antepartum areas, and occasionally to other appropriate units or nearby campuses, based on patient-care needs and demonstrated competencies
