Travel Nurse Job Details

  • Schedule: Approximately 36 hours per week
  • Shift: 12-hour night shifts, approximately 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Unit: High-risk, high-volume Labor & Delivery
  • Unit Volume: Approximately 15–17 patients daily and about 550 births per month
  • Weekend Coverage: Weekend and holiday coverage required based on unit needs
  • Orientation: 36 hours

Labor & Delivery RN Job Requirements

  • At least 1 year of recent Labor & Delivery Registered Nurse experience
  • High-risk Labor & Delivery experience in a fast-paced, high-acuity obstetric nursing environment
  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Washington; an active compact license must be in hand when applicable
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Epic electronic health record and electronic fetal monitoring experience required
  • Demonstrated ability to circulate for Cesarean sections
  • Demonstrated ability to function as the baby nurse during delivery and provide newborn care through transfer to postpartum
  • Ability to float to postpartum or antepartum and, when needed, provide support in related units or nearby locations
  • ACLS and AWHONN Advanced or Intermediate certification preferred
  • Ability to work weekends and holidays according to assignment needs

Travel Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients during labor, delivery, recovery, and high-risk obstetric situations
  • Assist with vaginal deliveries, Cesarean sections, forceps or vacuum deliveries, and other obstetric procedures
  • Circulate for Cesarean sections and maintain a safe, sterile environment
  • Serve as the baby nurse during delivery and continue care of the newborn until transfer to postpartum
  • Complete newborn assessments, APGAR scoring, identification and security procedures, cord care, thermoregulation, and routine eye and vitamin K administration
  • Recognize and respond to abnormal fetal heart rate patterns and changes in maternal or fetal condition
  • Manage and monitor therapies including magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, heparin, Pitocin, and other medications used in obstetric care
  • Provide care for antepartum patients, postpartum patients, and mother-baby couplets as assigned
  • Support patients with a range of needs, including high-risk pregnancies, pregnancy-induced hypertension, hemorrhage, substance recovery, and multiple births
  • Accurately document assessments, interventions, fetal monitoring, and patient outcomes in Epic
  • Collaborate with providers, midwives, respiratory services, pharmacy, social services, rapid response teams, and other members of the healthcare team
  • Follow evidence-based obstetric nursing practices and AWHONN guidelines while delivering respectful, family-centered care
