  • Shift Duration: 12-hour nights, approximately 7:00 PM–7:30 AM
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, infants, and adults
  • Unit Overview: Eight labor rooms and four triage rooms, with typical staffing ratios of approximately 1:1 to 1:3

Labor and Delivery RN Job Requirements

  • At least 2 years of recent Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse experience
  • Current Registered Nurse license eligible for practice in Washington; an active compact license must be in hand when applicable
  • Current BLS, Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and AWHONN Intermediate certifications
  • ACLS certification preferred
  • Recent Epic electronic health record experience required
  • Demonstrated experience with obstetric triage, high-risk antepartum care, labor management, and delivery support
  • Experience with fetal monitoring, magnesium sulfate, insulin infusions, anticoagulation therapy, epidural and PCA pumps, and blood product administration
  • Ability to provide two professional references covering at least one year of experience within the last three years
  • Flexibility to float to postpartum or another nearby affiliated unit based on skills and patient-care needs

Labor and Delivery Nursing Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients experiencing labor, preterm labor, delivery, and the immediate postpartum period
  • Perform obstetric triage, nursing assessments, fetal monitoring, sterile vaginal examinations, and ongoing pain and condition management
  • Assist with low- and high-risk deliveries, including circulating for Cesarean sections and supporting OB-GYN procedures
  • Care for high-risk antepartum patients and participate in couplet care and transition nursery support
  • Administer blood and blood products, magnesium sulfate, insulin, heparin, antihypertensives, and other medications according to orders and policy
  • Manage epidural, PCA, and syringe pumps while monitoring patients for therapeutic response and complications
  • Use and calibrate intrauterine pressure catheters and maintain central lines, including CVCs and PICC lines
  • Provide wound assessment and care, drain management, and support with warming and cooling interventions
  • Recognize changes in maternal and fetal status and collaborate with providers and the interdisciplinary healthcare team to coordinate timely interventions
  • Document care accurately in Epic and educate patients and families throughout the labor, delivery, and recovery process
