This facility is a 388-bed hospital and a Level 3 trauma center, equipped with specialized care units and advanced technology to provide comprehensive medical services.

Unit Information

• 12 beds available
• 3 Operating Rooms (ORs)
• 2 Obstetric Emergency Room (OB ER) rooms

Patient Types

The unit caters to high-risk and low-risk antepartum and intrapartum pregnant women, immediate postpartum care, stabilization of normal newborns, and couplet care.

Patient Ratios

The typical patient ratio is:

• 1:1 for high-risk patients
• 1:2 for normal cases

Patient care will adhere to AWHONN guidelines.

Required Licensure & Certifications

• Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
• Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)

Skills Required

• Intrauterine Pressure Catheter (IUPC) placement
• Fetal Scalp Electrode (FSE) application
• IV starts
• Circulating during C-sections

Support on the Unit

• CNA: Not available; support is provided by OBT scrub for vaginal delivery recoveries
• Receptionist/HUC: 24/7 available
• Charge Nurse: Present 24/7
• Phlebotomy: RNs perform blood draws as necessary
• IV/VAT Team: Available if needed
• Respiratory Therapy: Available with NICU support
• Hospitalist Services: Available
• Telemetry Monitoring: Centralized electronic fetal monitoring, cardiac telemetry provided

Technology and Equipment

• Electronic Medical Record (EMR): EPIC
• IV Pumps: Baxter
• Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
• Fetal Monitoring System: GE/Centricity and Phillips EFM/tele

Floating

Staff may be required to float to Postpartum and NICU for level 2 newborns as needed.

Orientation

Orientation typically consists of 2-3 shifts, depending on the nurse's competency and comfort level.

Scheduling Details

• Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend
• Holiday Expectations: One holiday may be required
• Shift Times: 1900-0730 and 0700-1930
• Schedule Cycle: Sunday to Saturday
