Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Telemetry/IMC RN for a night shift stepdown unit position requiring active IL licensure and prior travel experience.

Details

  • Stepdown/PCU unit in an acute care hospital setting
  • Night shift, 3x12 hours (1845-0715), with ability to accommodate 4x12s if preferred
  • Works every other weekend
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating required within the hospital or to nearby affiliate facilities as needed
  • Cerner charting system used, prior experience preferred

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required and in hand at time of application
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant experience required
  • BLS and NIHSS certifications required, ACLS preferred
  • Prior travel nursing experience required
  • Experience in Telemetry, Neuro Stepdown, and PCU/DOU/IMC/Stepdown settings required
  • Skilled in interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, telemetry monitoring, and use of Rapid Response Teams
  • Cardiovascular experience including post cardiac angiogram, post MI, pre/post cardiac cath and surgery, sheath removal, and TR band care
  • Feeding tube care and management experience required
  • Pre/post hemodialysis management and renal failure care experience required
  • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills including port access, arterial and central line management, blood product administration, PICC line management, and starting IVs
  • Medication management experience including heparin protocols, cardiac and vasoactive drip management and titration, PCA, and procedural sedation administration
  • Neurological/psychiatric case experience including craniotomy, CVA, pre/post neurosurgery, spinal cord injury, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic case experience including ortho trauma, peripheral nerve block catheters, and total joint replacements
  • Plastic surgery case experience including skin grafts and surgical drains
  • Respiratory skills including ventilator care, chest tube management, CPAP/BiPAP, high flow nasal cannula, ABG interpretation, and tracheostomy management
  • Experience with isolation precautions and wound care/wound vac required
  • Teaching hospital and Level I trauma experience preferred

Additional Information

  • Provide comprehensive stepdown-level nursing care to a medically complex patient population
  • Located within a 562-bed acute care hospital that is a Level I trauma center and Magnet-designated facility
  • Scrub color requirement: any solid color
  • Parking permit required, no cost, arranged during orientation
  • Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays
  • RTO ideally limited to no more than 5 days
  • Local candidates accepted with no radius restriction
  • Previous permanent or PRN employees must be separated from the facility for at least 12 months before returning as a traveler
  • Travel pairs are not accepted
  • First-time travelers will not be considered for this role
