  • Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130 - $2,250
  • Assignment Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift Duration: 12-hour day shifts
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, Monday through Friday with every other weekend and some holidays required
  • Hours Per Week: 36
  • Setting: Cardiac stepdown / intermediate care / progressive care unit (PCU)
  • Patient Population: Adults and geriatrics
  • Charting System: Epic experience required

Registered Nurse Job Requirements

  • Active Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license
  • Minimum of 2 years of acute care experience in cardiac stepdown, PCU, IMC, DOU, or similar specialty within the last 3 years
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA
  • Telemetry competency with the ability to pass a pre-start telemetry test
  • Experience with cardiac telemetry, dysrhythmia management, thoracic care, oncology, or transplant patients preferred
  • Experience with ventilator management and transplant care preferred
  • Strong skills in managing arterial lines, chest tubes, central lines, IVs, and vasoactive drips
  • Comfortable using Epic and working in a collaborative acute care environment
  • Must be willing to float as needed

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown and thoracic surgery patients
  • Monitor telemetry and respond appropriately to rhythm changes and clinical status updates
  • Support patients recovering from thoracic and cardiac procedures, including post-op and intermediate care needs
  • Assist with procedures such as chest tube insertion and ongoing chest tube management
  • Administer medications and therapies, including blood products, insulin protocols, and vasoactive drips as ordered
  • Manage central lines, PICCs, peripheral IVs, feeding tubes, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive airway support
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to promote safe, compassionate, evidence-based care
  • Float to related units as needed to support patient care needs
  • Maintain accurate documentation in Epic and uphold unit standards for quality and safety
