Travel RN opportunity in Madison, Wisconsin for an experienced Cardiac Stepdown Registered Nurse. Join a high-acuity telemetry and progressive care team supporting adult and geriatric patients recovering from complex cardiac and thoracic surgery in a respected teaching hospital.

Job Details

• Position: Registered Nurse – Cardiac Stepdown
• Employment Type: Travel Nursing / Travel RN
• Setting: Adult cardiac stepdown / intermediate care / progressive care unit (PCU)
• Shift: 12-hour night shifts, typically 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Shift Pattern: 3 shifts per week; every other weekend and some holidays required
• Hours Per Week: 36
• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Weekly Estimated Pay: $2,130-$2,250
• Start Date: October 12, 2026
• Location: Madison, WI 53792
• Charting System: Epic
• Float Requirement: Floating as needed

Job Requirements

• Active Wisconsin RN license or compact RN license
• Minimum of 2 years of acute care nursing experience within the last 3 years in the specialty
• Cardiac stepdown, telemetry, oncology, PCU/DOU, or IMC experience required
• ICU or IMC experience and surgical post-op experience required
• Ventilator and transplant experience preferred
• BLS and ACLS certifications from AHA required
• Ability to pass a telemetry exam prior to start
• Epic experience preferred
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and teamwork skills

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to cardiac stepdown and thoracic surgery patients
• Monitor telemetry and recognize cardiac rhythm changes promptly
• Care for patients with thoracic and cardiac diagnoses, including esophagectomies, wedge resections, lung volume reduction surgery, and post-cardiac surgery recovery
• Manage complex therapies such as chest tubes, IV drips, oxygen support, and hemodynamic monitoring
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary care teams to support safe, coordinated patient care
• Assist with procedures such as chest tube insertion when needed
• Float to comparable units as assigned to support patient care needs
• Contribute to an evidence-based care environment focused on innovation, teamwork, and quality outcomes
