Travel RN Job Details

- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend and some holidays; scheduling may include block weekend options
- Patient Population: Acutely ill adults with complex medical and surgical conditions, cardiac and pulmonary diagnoses, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary hypertension, and post-lung-transplant needs
- Unit Profile: 29-bed stepdown unit with general care ratios of approximately 1:4 and intermediate care ratios of approximately 1:2
- Charting: Epic electronic health record
- Scheduling Flexibility: The department may consider four 12-hour shifts or block weekend scheduling based on unit needs
Cardiac Stepdown Travel Nurse Requirements
- Active Registered Nurse license in Wisconsin or a compact RN license
- At least 2 years of acute-care RN experience within the past 3 years in the specialty submitted
- Recent PCU, DOU, IMC, stepdown, cardiac telemetry, or telemetry oncology experience
- Strong experience caring for ventilated patients and transplant patients
- Experience in an academic Level I or Level II trauma center, or a similar-size hospital
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications from the American Heart Association
- Experience with Epic or a comparable electronic health record
- Ability to float to other units as needed
- Successful completion of a telemetry examination before the assignment begins, including recognition of lethal rhythms and third-degree heart blocks
- Travel nursing experience preferred
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care to acutely ill adult patients in general care and intermediate care settings
- Monitor and interpret cardiac rhythms, identify dysrhythmias, and respond promptly to changes in patient condition
- Care for patients requiring mechanical ventilation, noninvasive airway support, high-flow oxygen, cardiac monitoring, and complex medication management
- Manage arterial lines, central lines, PICC lines, chest tubes, surgical drains, feeding tubes, tracheostomies, wound therapy, and other specialized equipment
- Administer blood products, titrate cardiac and insulin infusions, and manage heparin and other acute-care protocols
- Provide pre- and post-procedure care, including care for trauma, thoracic surgery, neurosurgery, renal failure, and transplant patients
- Recognize clinical deterioration and collaborate with rapid response, respiratory therapy, pharmacy, IV therapy, rehabilitation, and other members of the care team
- Advocate for patient safety and quality outcomes while contributing to a collaborative, multidisciplinary practice environment
- Complete accurate documentation and patient education using the electronic health record
