Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced ICU RN with at least 2 years of ICU experience and a prior travel assignment for a fast-paced, mixed ICU setting.

Details

  • 39-bed mixed ICU (MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU) divided into pods
  • Would not float to CVICU side unless experienced in that specialty
  • Complex ICU patient population: surgical, medical, cardiac (preferred), neuro, and heavy trauma
  • Diagnoses include ARDS, MI, CVA/TIA, COVID, post-cardiac cath, post-surgical, and multi-system trauma
  • Patient ratios of 1:1, 1:2, and rarely 1:3 depending on acuity
  • 12-hour day shifts, 48 hours per week
  • Weekend rotation targeted at every other weekend, though not guaranteed
  • No on-call requirements
  • Floating not common unless overstaffed, but could float to any adult floor including Medsurg/Tele at a 1:4 ratio
  • Uses Epic charting system, Alaris pumps (transitioning to Baxter by October), and Omnicell
  • Unit support includes 1-2 CNAs plus a mobility float aide, 2 charge RNs overseeing all ICUs, peripheral phlebotomy, 24/7 respiratory therapy, and onsite intensivists/APPs

Requirements

  • Active RN license (SD or Compact) required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, and TNCC (must be willing to obtain TNCC prior to arrival if not already held)
  • Minimum 2 years of ICU experience required, excluding travel experience
  • Completion of an accredited nursing education program
  • Prior travel assignment required; first-time travelers not accepted
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Experience with IV medications including vasopressors, sedation, and paralytics
  • Experience with hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry
  • Strong critical thinking and assessment skills with ability to work well in a team
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, all-critical patient environment
  • Experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT strongly preferred
  • Cardiac experience with CABG/TAVR post-op care preferred but not required

Additional Information

  • Provide direct critical care to complex ICU patients across medical, surgical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma populations
  • May be expected to precept nursing students
  • Orientation includes hospital orientation, department orientation with iLearns, and floor orientation shifts
  • No RTO permitted during holidays or during the Sturgis Bike Rally (first three weeks of August)
  • Time off requests approved for up to 7 days, with contract extension required to complete a full 13-week assignment
  • Scrub color requirement: navy
  • Free parking available
  • Must reside at least 100 miles from any facility within the health system to qualify for travel positions
  • Permanent staff must wait one year before returning as a travel employee
  • Facility is known for being traveler-friendly and frequently renews travel contracts
