ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Join our dynamic healthcare team as an ICU Registered Nurse (RN) in a mixed intensive care unit setting, dedicated to providing exceptional patient care to a diverse patient population. This position requires a strong clinical background and a passion for nursing in a fast-paced environment.

General Information

  • Beds: 39 - Including MICU, SICU, CICU, TICU, organized into pods.
  • Patient Ratios: 1:1 to 1:3 (rare), based on acuity.
  • Unit Support: Includes 1-2 CNA nurse aides per unit and mobility float aides, along with a charge nurse overseeing all ICUs.
  • Charting System: Epic (required).

Patient Types

Care will be provided to complex ICU patients, including surgical, medical, cardiac, neuro, and trauma cases. Common diagnoses include:

  • ARDS
  • Myocardial Infarction (MI)
  • Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA)/Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
  • COVID-19
  • Post-cardiac catheterization
  • Post-surgical patients
  • Multiple system trauma

Minimum Experience

Applicants should possess:

  • 2 years of ICU experience excluding travel experience preferred.
  • 1.5 years of ICU experience may be considered if significant RN experience outside of ICU is demonstrated.
  • Experience with complex critical care patients.

Required Certifications

  • BLS
  • ACLS
  • NIHSS
  • TNCC (required prior to arrival)

Education and Skills

Qualifications include:

  • Completion of a nursing education program approved by a board of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) credential in good standing.
  • Epic experience is required.
  • Comfortable working a 48-hour/week contract.
  • Ability to handle IV medications (vasopressors, sedation, paralytics), hemodynamic lines, proning, ventilator management, and telemetry.
  • Strong critical thinking and assessment skills.
  • Preferred experience with Impella, IABP, and CRRT.

Orientation and Scheduling

Orientation will include:

  • 1 day of hospital orientation.
  • 8-hour department orientation and iLearns.
  • At least two 12-hour shifts of floor orientation.

Scheduling details include:

  • Weekend rotation is preferred but not guaranteed.
  • No requests for time off during holidays or Sturgis Bike Rally.
  • Time off approval for up to 7 days must be extended to accommodate a full 13-week contract.
